  • Point Loma Lighthouse is 462 feet above the water and is painted white with green trim.


  • The buildings and grounds are maintained by the U.S. Park Service and include a small museum and gift shop.

  • Visitors to Cabrillo National Monument can walk along a paved sidewalk and see views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

  • Cabrillo was the first European to navigate the west coast of North America. He landed at several locations along the California coast.


  • Cabrillo was born in 1499 and died in 1543. He was Portuguese, but he sailed for Spain.
