Point Loma Lighthouse

Point Loma Lighthouse Lesson

by elcivics.com

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is located at the tip of Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, California. It was built in 1854 and was used until 1891 when a new lighthouse was built. The new lighthouse was built because the Old Point Loma Lighthouse was built high on a hill and fog would often rise and block its light. The old lighthouse is now part of the Cabrillo National Monument, a scenic park that honors Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. Cabrillo was the first European to explore the west coast of North America. (3 pages)
