The capital of Maine is Augusta.
Augusta is located in the southern part of the state on the Kennebec River.
The Maine State House was completed in 1832. It is made of Maine granite.
Moose
Maine's state animal is the moose.
Moose are the largest of the deer species.
A male moose is called a bull, a female is called a cow and a group is called a herd.
Black-capped Chickadee
Maine's state bird is the black-capped chickadee. Chickadees are small songbirds.
Black-capped chickadees have a black "cap" on their heads. This means that the feathers on the top of their heads are black.
Chickadees lower their body temperature at night during the winter.
