Capital of Maine

  • The capital of Maine is Augusta.


  • Augusta is located in the southern part of the state on the Kennebec River.


  • The Maine State House was completed in 1832. It is made of Maine granite

 

Moose - State Animal of Maine

Moose

  • Maine's state animal is the moose.


  • Moose are the largest of the deer species.


  • A male moose is called a bull, a female is called a cow and a group is called a herd.

 

Black-capped Chickadee - State Bird of Maine

Black-capped Chickadee

  • Maine’s state bird is the black-capped chickadee. Chickadees are small songbirds.


  • Black-capped chickadees have a black "cap" on their heads. This means that the feathers on the top of their heads are black.


  • Chickadees lower their body temperature at night during the winter.
