  • The capital of Arizona is Phoenix.
  • Phoenix is located the the Sonoran Desert. Temperatures average over 100 degrees three months out of the year.

  • Arizona's state flower is the saguaro blossom.
  • Saguaros are tall cactus plants that can live for 150 years. They grow slowly and have arms.
  • The plants blossom at night from April to May.


Cactus Wren - State Bird of Arizona

Cactus Wren

  • Arizona's state bird is the cactus wren.
  • Cactus wrens are 7-9 inches (18-23 cm) long and they are brown with white spots. Males and females look alike.
  • Cactus wrens live in pairs and build nests inside cactus plants. They eat insects such as ants and grasshopers.
